By the time of St. Francesco of Assisi, on the way which leads from La Verna to Gubbio, between Città di Castello and Pietralunga, some friars put the first stones for the basis for a monastery. Documents dated 1268-69 confirm this and announce a "locus di frati minor prope castrum Pratalongae". This place became later the antique estate of Prince Boncompagni Ludovisi.
